ABSOLUTELY! I am about to do precisely what you are asking, beginning on Monday morning. I start a new job that will pay for me to go back to school to get my Master’s degree. I am in my mid 40′s. I had a very successful career in Human Resources – Training and Development.
If you want to make more money and education is what is in the way, go back to school. Make sure it is what you want to do. I want to teach at the college level. In order to begin to do that I have to go back to school for at least 3 years. So, I will be back in school in January.
Funny I should see your question. I am 40 years old and am currently a full time student back in college. I worked for well over 10 years in retail management, making good pay and bonuses, but in the end, it was unsatisfying and unchallanging. So now I am re-inventing myself to be a website and e-commerce developer.
Much more rewarding and challenging…and I don’t have to work 70-80 hour work weeks!
Why not, I did. I worked in the oilfield all my life until I was 35. Then I went to school for 12 weeks and learned to drive a truck. When I worked in the oilfield I made good money but worked all the time. I was single then so the money was all that mattered. Now I am married and have more to do than work. I still make good money but have time off now to do other things i enjoy.
I am also in my forties, and just today I was at the local college finding out what I have to do to enroll for part time courses in order to change my career.
