ThinkClearWater asked:

ok i need some help .
i uploaded my resume ( recent graduate – dec 2006 -degree in electrical and computer engineering ) to yahoo hot jobs few weeks ago , and someone named phil from “Axiom” just called me . i think he was a recruiter, maybe ?
and he send me this to my email
“Jomy,

Nice speaking with you today. I will be in touch if there is an interest from Axiom. In the meantime, plesse review the job description and get back to me with your thoughts.

Phil

Now , in the job description it says this – “Job Description:Mid-Level Programmer
Individual will work both as part of team and independently in developing and implementing business application programs in Microsoft Visual FoxPro and SQL Server. Projects will include new program development, extending and enhancing the functionality of existing applications, and performing data migration projects. These are LAN based, data driven, business applications. ”

I told the guy i know Java , C++ and all .
The truth is I graduated with Electrical engineering and computer engineering . I didn’t learn Foxpro or SQL , should i tell him that i could attend the interview and learn all this ? because the job pays good around 40 – 50 grand .

What do you think i should do ?
i did study ” Java , C++ , C ”
He wants me to get back to him , This is my first Job Call related to my career . How do i tell him i need the interview ?
Should i say ” I would be very interested in working for you , When can we meet?”
does that sound ok ?

[one of the reasons why i need the interview is because i need some interview experiences , the other reason is that i am thinking i could learn the Foxpro and SQL in a short time using Internet , atleast the basics ??]
what do you think about the whole thing ?

    Get him on the phone, it is too easy for him to ignore your email if he doesn’t like what you have to say. Tell him you’d like to meet with him, then tell him in the interview that you are willing to learn any skills you don’t have. You will have a better chance of getting the job if he can meet you in person. If he is a Recruiter, he may know of another position that you would be a good fit for, if this one doesn’t work out.

    Hi,
    You should go and apply for the job anyway. Don’t let lack of experience stop you from interviewing. Since you know C and Java- you know object orineted programming. SQL is very simple.

    Do the interview and show that you are a smart, confident person with a “get the job done” attitude and you should have no problems.

    Hi,

    Try to check out the Axiom website and find out any matching job openings that suits you. If you find a better match, say that you might be a better fit for so and so position. Even otherwise I think you should apply for the job, since most employers might be willing to modify, adjust the post if you impress them that you can learn and adapt easily.

    Good Luck.
