LM asked:

I am currently employed as a mid-level employee (not a manager, but not a sales associate either) at a retail store owned by a large national corporation. I am seeking to relocate to the city where the corporation’s headquarters are located and am interested in several positions that are available at the head office.

However, I do not want my current supervisor to know that I am looking for a new job. I am worried that if I’m considered for the position, the people from the head office will contact my current boss without telling me (despite the fact that the position I would be applying for is completely different from the one I currently hold). Does anyone know what the protocol is in situations like this? Do I have a good reason to be nervous?
