I just got a job offer from a start-up company. The company is profitable and is planning on going public in a couple of years.
The position is a mid-level sales position.
They offered me 10,000 shares, but I don’t think that it’s a fair offer. This is negotiable, so how many shares should I ask for?

It is not only the number of shares, but also the price and perhaps most importantly, the term for being vested. I once did great at a company and the stocks skyrocketed, but had to leave beforing the options were vested.
