Is learning non-Windows OS worth it?

mid-level jobs
zaxc0Z asked:

As you know most companies/organizations are windows shop. Is gaining proficiency in non-Windows OS (through independent studies) worth the effort for someone who doesn’t yet have mid-level number of years of experience in order to get a job? This also includes Mac OS.

Yes definitely. There are key skills to be learned in other OSs. For Mac OS, a lot of graphics design programs are supported. For linux, anything command line, server-oriented (including web servers) and web development. You’ll learn more about how each OS works and implements things, and thus how computers work.
