Have you ever got a job that you were overqualified for?

mid-level jobs
questioner asked:

My uncle is an unemployed executive. He was making $160K a year as a IT Executive and he was laid off from his job at the Large Software company he worked at. NOw he has been unemployed for a long time beause in today’s job market and terrible economy, he finds that most jobs in his field are designed for entry and mid level workers who want less money. Because he is so desperate he would work for less money in a lower level job but he is told no because the employers assume he would be bored and not able to deal with less money. He is told that he would leave the job as soon as he finds something closer to the work he did before. But he tells them those type of jobs do not exist anymore and he wants to scale down. No one believes him. What to do?

Yeah it’s tough. I have taken jobs i was wayyy over-qualified to do. It’s hard now a days because employers don’t want to hire someone who is more educated and experienced as them ! I know someone who has a master’s degree and was told over and over that they were too qualified for a job, so they ended editing thier resume and just took their master’s degree right off their resume. It’s not lying or unethical unless the employer specifically askes you “what is your highest level of education”. I don’t know what to tell your uncle, maybe he could start his own company or something? Good luck.
