I realize that not ALL Republicans feel this way, but I answered a question about why the White House is lying about the amount of jobs that the stimulus provided, and received thumbs down b/c of my response. It was:

Not sure what numbers the White House has provided, but I can tell you about the company that I work for… as an IT Recruiter for a Federal Government Contractor, we support a division of the government that received $7 million in stimulus funds, which allowed for us to recruit for an additional 143 personnel to support that particular contract. We also just found out that we were awarded another contract that was re-opened for bidding in part b/c of funds received from stimulus money… that contract is a 210 FTE (full-time employee) contract. In all, in case you aren’t doing the math, b/c of stimulus funds, our company was able to provide jobs to 353 people across the mid-west.

What’s wrong with our company providing jobs that were made possible by stimulus money?
The contracts are 5 year contracts. I think that in 5 years, our economy will have made a recovery. If not, we’re still at least providing short term solutions (of at least 5 years).
YB Logical – our company didn’t acquire the $7 billion. The government sector that our company supports did.

Thanks to those answerers that chose to answer the question without interjecting some form of negativity.

孫子兵法 asked:

..it has no barrier of being good in what they do in the White House?

Richard Nixon was one of the most experienced people ever to take the office of president – having served in the Senate and eight years as vice president – yet he made a thorough mess of things domestically and had a mixed record in foreign policy.

Similarly, James Buchanan had been a U.S. congressman and senator, minister (ambassador) to Russia and Great Britain, and secretary of state before becoming chief executive, but his poor policies as president helped cause the bloody Civil War.

On the other hand, Chester Arthur only held two mid-level jobs in New York and was vice president for a mere six months before taking over for James Garfield after he was assassinated in 1881. Yet Arthur was a good president. The only reason he is not better known is because he was not president during a war (a good thing if you stop and think about it) and did not exude charisma (although he was a snappy dresser).

So Palin has “executive experience” but no foreign policy or national security experience like Biden…yet Republicans kept harping why “executive experience” is good.

From my POV; better judgment politically is greater than “executive experience.”

shocker73 asked:

BREAKING NEWS !!!

LEGISLATIVE ALERT !!!

The Americans With No Abilities Act

Washington , DC – (Dateline February 18, 2009)

President Barack Obama and the Democrat-controlled Congress are considering sweeping legislation that will provide new benefits for many Americans. The Americans With No Abilities Act (AWNAA) is being hailed as a major legislative goal by advocates of the millions of Americans who lack any real skills, knowledge or ambition.

“Roughly 50 percent of Americans do not possess the intelligence, competence and drive necessary to carve out a meaningful role for themselves in society,” said California Senator Barbara Boxer – Democrat. “We can no longer stand by and allow People of Inability

(POI) to be ridiculed, passed over for promotions, or even worse – fired – for no reason except for their lack of any ability or motivation to do any given job. With this legislation, employers will no longer be able to grant special favors to a small group of workers, simply because they have some idea of what they are doing or a willingness to learn it.”

In a Capitol Hill press conference, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi – Democrat, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid – Democrat – pointed to the success of the U.S. Postal Service, which has a long-standing

policy of providing opportunity without regard to performance.

Approximately 74 percent of postal employees lack any job skills, making this agency the single largest U.S. employer of Persons of Inability. Harry Reid pointed also to the public school system as another long-time leader in the field of providing secure employment opportunities to POI.

Private-sector industries with good records of non-discrimination against POI include retail sales (72%), the airline industry (68%), and home improvement warehouse stores (65%). At the state government level, highway public works departments, and the Department of Motor Vehicles both have excellent records of hiring Persons of Inability (93%).

Under AWNAA, more than 25 million mid-level positions will be created, with important-sounding titles but little real responsibility, thus providing an illusory sense of purpose and performance while building self-esteem and providing more candidates who will eventually be promoted into actual senior management positions with even higher salaries and even fewer actual responsibilities.

Mandatory non-performance-based raises and promotions will be given so as to guarantee upward mobility for even the most unremarkable or unproductive employees. The legislation provides substantial tax breaks to corporations that promote a significant number of Persons of Inability into middle-management positions, and gives a tax credit to other businesses that agree to hire one clueless worker for every two talented hires. Utility and cable companies, followed closely by computer customer support departments, are lobbying to have past such hires become eligible for these tax incentives.

Finally, the AWNAA contains tough new measures to make it more difficult to discriminate against the non-abled, banning, for example, such blatantly discriminatory interview questions such as, “Do you have any particular skills, knowledge or experience that relate to this job?”

“As a Non-abled person, I can’t be expected to keep up with people who have something going for them,”said Mary Lou Gertz, who lost her position as a lug-nut twister at the GM plant in Flint, Michigan, due to her chronic inability to remember “rightey tightey, lefty loosey.” Gertz added, “I shouldn’t have to be a rocket scientist to keep my job and this new law should be real good for people like me.” With the passage of this bill, Gertz and millions of other untalented citizens will finally see a light at the end of the tunnel and be able to secure well-paying, tenured jobs just like other people who simply are more motivated and productive but otherwise identical to workers such as Gertz.

Said Senator **** Durbin (Democrat-IL), “As a Senator with no abilities, I believe the same privileges and benefits that elected officials enjoy ought to be extended to every other American with no abilities. It is our duty as lawmakers to provide each and every American citizen, regardless of his or her inadequacy, with some sort of space to take up in this great nation and a good salary for doing so.”

“You’re supposed to sit on your *** and nod at stupid things.
Man, that’s hard to do.”

in the 90s… Clinton’s tax rate was higher…

and I don’t work in tech business… and I’m fairly low/mid level…. (I’m at a higher position now than when I started)

but in the 90s, there were huge bonuses, big pay increases even for those that didn’t do the best jobs, jobs everywhere if you didn’t like the one you’re in….

then the tech bubble burst, and things slowed down a little… but still seemed to be mostly the same… maybe the bonuses weren’t as large….

then the Bush tax cuts came… that were going to give the wealthy a lot of money that would trickle down to everyone….

BUT then things got worse…. layoffs (thank goodness I’ve got my job, but many were cut), tiny bonuses if any at all, smaller pay increases for everyone, even for the best in the office, and fewer jobs….

and sales were increasing the entire time, in fact, our sales increased faster after 2000 than they did in the 90s?

I’ve talked to friends at several other companies and the ones near my level say the same…. we’ve gotten less compensation for more work seemingly since the tax cuts…

but I have a few rich friends that say things were 100 times better in since the tax cuts?

where’s the “trickle down”?

it almost feels like the wealthy, around 2000, all sat down and said to themselves “why should be keep paying bonuses and big raises, when we don’t have to?”

then inflation of course continued and the gov. raised fed interest rates… and people couldn’t afford their homes anymore…

you can sit there and say “according to this economics book, things should be 10 times better than they were in the 90s”… but it seems like what’s on paper didn’t work in real life….

but yet we need more tax cuts geared mainly to the wealthy? I don’t know if I but it…

is it just me… or anyone else?
should be “buy” instead of but…my bad
