James S asked:

Hi.
So I am a 15 year old guy and I turn 16 in mid July. I really want to save money for an ipad (among other things) and asking for money from my parents is getting old.
So my question is what jobs are available to my age?
I was thinking just like a grocery store checkout person for the summer (I can’t work during the school year), and I was wondering how much money I could make doing that (per month, per summer)?
Thanks

They seem to take out all of their anger on their employees (usually the ones in college). Have you ever noticed that?

A specific example if yo want it. There is a girl at my job who has been there for seven or eight years, she is in her mid-20′s, she is one level above me, which is a totally powerless position. This is her career and she is the meanest person i have ever met.
Are these people angry because their lives are going no where and take out their anger on their employees.

boandjangles asked:

Hi there everyone,

I am a graduate who applied for a million and one jobs. Since the graduate jobs seemed so competitive, I decided to apply for recruitment consultant jobs because they seemed to be advertised a fair amount. I was thrilled to be offered a 3 month trial contract at a place about 20 miles away (not ideal but at least it would pay the bills!!) I am supposed to start tomorrow. (Also, they said they have had loads of people start and **** it so I had to convince them I only wanted to do recruitment and that I had only applied for recruitment jobs oooops white lie!)

On Friday I got the shock of my life to find out I have been offered a job that thousands of people went for!! It’s a graduate merchandising job with a HUGE company. They need to check my references but they have offered me the job and they said the start date is mid to end november.

So now I am in a predicament. My mum is saying it’s dog eat dog and to start the recruitment training tomorrow…and basicaly lie to them. But I would find it hard to throw myself into something (going round to meet the clients, having a big welcome from the lovely staff there, learning a new industry) when I am probably going to be leaving in like…3/4 weeks. I don’t wanna tell them the exact truth (that I have found a better job, not in recruitment) because… my references might not be amazing and it might fall through or somthing, or I might **** merchandising and I want to keep the recruitment people sweet. So my options are…

1)Start the job and quit mid to end november. I don’t wanna do this really.

2)Tell them I failed a couple of my exams and that I can’t start till end of november as I have to resit? (maybe they might agree to that??). At least by then I will definately know if I like the merchandising job.

3) Tell them I DO have a graduate internship…but maybe say it is a management one that is only a few weeks? Basically put it off long enough to know if I am definately into this merchandising job?

I could find some temp work in the meantime to keep myself going (and that’s weekly pay which is better as I don’t have a penny!!)

Help!

Jean asked:

I was an asst Pre K teacher with a masters degree, a career changer. This was my first job after many yrs as at-home mom. As a brand new teacher — with all the creativity and enthusiasm that implies — I came into job with many Qs re: how things were done at school + ideas to share. From the start =terrible chemistry with head teacher. She would yell at me in front of the kids and cut me off as soon as I tried to say anything & walk away= very frustrating. She had 25 yrs at school (whole career) and was mentored by owner (=VERY close. I didn’t understand politics until later.) I assumed I had been hired because I brought a different educational perspective and life experience to the team, so it took a little while to figure out that that was exactly where head teacher’s problems with me lay. Over time, as I was closed out of all curricular decisions by team, so I curtailed most of my questions and suggestions. (It was more important to insure a peaceful classroom environment for the kids.) I found that I could create my own place in the classroom, while compliantly supporting my teammates, by concentrating on knowing each child well as a person and a learner, and designing hands on experiences that could lead to meaningful connections across curricular domains. (This wasn’t part of school philosophy and no one in our team did this.) While the children’s enthusiasm suggested that I was providing a needed element to the classroom, I recognized that this could be “trouble” [too much attention on me] and always tried to deflect parents’ attention from myself and refer them back to the team.)
I think head probably just made owner’s life so miserable with her frequent complaining about me that she finally decided to get rid of me because she couldn’t take it any more! As I mentioned, she hired head right out of school years ago; she had mentored and personally trained her in her own vision of school philosophy; Head teacher had babysat for owner’s kids when they were babies and has been very involved with her family. I think that everything that I defined me as a person and progressive teacher created tremendous anxiety in head. Owner probably spent little time weighing her responsibility to me as a new hire against her feelings and responsibility for head. I thought I was going to job review — I thought: prob no contract for next year but not fired immediately, no good bye to kids or colleagues! (They said “Bad fit” but nothing I had done. Plus, School policy=they don’t give references –just employment dates.) Parents were shocked and upset — they sent me some great letters of recommendation but is that enough? I’m glad I’m out of that school (but still heartbroken re: kids.) At job interviews, I’m not getting anywhere. HELP!! What a blight on resume! How do I get past this? I love teaching !
