Legend in your own mind! asked:

The Bush administration openly and admittedly broke the law by authorizing unwarranted spying on US citizens, but who gets the prosecution scam? The reporter that broke the story.
Allegedly he put national security in jeopardy by simply telling the American public what was going on. It’s as IF terrorists could do anything with the simple information that the top levels of our government are indeed corrupted.
It isn’t just the Bush administration and his fellow R’s, but the D leadership who by law should be investigating these crimes, but do nothing except applaud all the way to the bank as the reporter is punished for simply doing his job.
So this is what we think of. The evil media, the very same one that defends your rights to free speech and is the very media who keeps you informed of such scandals as Blogovitch or whatever that clowns name in Chicago is and many others, but when they uncover our favorite son’s felonies they must pay?
This is no longer a free press. It’s utter and complete corruption on both sides at the highest levels and we sit by arguing with each others over trivial issues. I no longer believe that these people in Washington have our best interest at heart. I don’t trust a single one of them R nor D and perhaps it’s high time we have a major retooling of our governments because we are no longer represented folks. We are ruled over.
Do you actually buy the idea that the reporter that broke the story also broke the law? If he did I would LOVE to know what law he broke.
For the record, the journalists name, Eric Lichtblau was informed of these crimes by Thomas Tamm a mid-level, career Justice Department lawyer. It was reported in the New York Times in 2004
I never said Americans don’t value freedom. The leadership doesn’t. That’s much different.
Our leadership values their own freedom, power and money. As for the rest of us, here’s a bread crumb… *
The question isn’t about Obama, dumbshlt.
The supremacy clause.. hmm, is that the one that’s in fine print at the bottom of our now defunct constitution?

Benny C asked:

with a coorporation. The charge is over 7 years old and I have not been in any trouble since. I also have my associates degree and a stellar resume. #1 in sales 2 years in a row at a Fortune 100 company with proof. Luckily that company didnt do a background check on me for some reason. I work for a mid level medical supply company now and want to change jobs, but I am wondering if I should even bother. I was turned down by several companys when the charge was 5-6 years old ie. Dell, Pitney Bowes. Please advise. I still have to wait 2 more year before i can apply for a pardon in my state Tennessee.
It was a felony because a friend of mine got arrested buying a more ellicit drug, cocaine i think. So he decided to set me up. I got him an ounce of marijuana from a friend and didnt make a cent off it, I did it as a favor. Little did I know that he set me up to get himself out of trouble. He ended up not getting any jail time and I think that he also got his record reduced to a misdemeanor. he set several others up as well. Now I am stuck with a Class E felony, it was reduced to a felony possession of marijuana. And a cokehead is walking the streets basically a clean record. I am a very talented salesperson and my resume blows people away and then when I tell them I have a record they just look at me differently. Luckily I have always been able to get a good job through friends but since I have payed my time and I quit somking pot the day I was arrested. This is just BS, dont you love the justice system??
Is anyone on here in Human resources? If so I would like for you to explain if I would have problems getting a job with a 7+ year old possession of marijuana (felony) at your corporation. Keep in mind that is the only charge on my record ever and I havent even had a speeding ticket before. I am extremely clean cut, professional, and wear a suit and tie everyday now. By looking at me, I look like a regular college grad.

B asked:

I could use a little help on this guy’s we are to define the central ethical issue and distinguish the central issue from other ethical issue which I have found to be:
Danny has to decide between being an honest citizen working to expose any corruption within public service and keeping a steady well paying job and possibly his freedom.
I also have to give numerous supporting details and examples which are organized logically and coherently so far I have these details:
He is in a bind due to the fact that he knows that what is going on but cannot expose it in any way because if the story is in anyway leaked then all evidence points to him as the person who released the information.
But the fraudulent government contracts violate several federal laws and agency policies and because his responsibility is to watch for and report any illegal activity he may encounter this could be taken to someone higher by someone other than him and he would once again risk his job by not reporting illegal action.
Another issue of him not providing this information is If he were to leak the information he would be backed by media, the public, and possibly someone high enough to help Danny keep his job and not face federal crimes.
He could also try and go above his superiors and speak to someone that may acknowledge the situation and see that his superiors receive the proper disciplinary action which should possibly be termination.

Danny’s Decision

Terry R. Cross is an investigatory journalist with a respected Washington-area newspaper, Capitol News Briefly. As a reporter working in and around the D.C. area, Mr. Cross often relies on his long list of contacts in order to glean information that might be useful for the various articles he publishes on corruption within politics and government. Furthermore, a few of Mr. Cross’s key contacts are able to pass along hard-to-come-by information about questionable or even illegal actions taken by government employees or agencies.

One such contact is Danny Briar, a mid-level federal agency administrator. As a middleman of sorts, Danny is in a position uniquely suited to evaluating the actions of those who work both below and above him. One of Mr. Briar’s responsibilities is to watch for and report any illegal activity that he might encounter. Mr. Briar takes this role very seriously. His responsibilities as a watchdog were what originally led him to seek out Terry, a like-minded opponent of corruption within public service.

Mr. Briar has discovered that some individuals within his agency are working to cover up illegally-awarded, over-billed, or otherwise fraudulent government contracts awarded during the early months of the Iraq War. The actions of these individuals are in violation of several federal laws and agency policies. Upon presenting his discovery to his superiors, Mr. Briar was told to disregard his findings and to refrain from further discussing the subject. After pressing the matter, he was informed that the contracts in question had been deemed classified through appropriate agency and congressional channels. Moreover, because the contracts had been deemed to serve a compelling national security interest, it would be illegal to discuss them with anyone outside his agency.

Mr. Briar is fully aware that telling what he knows to Mr. Cross would violate laws regarding the disclosure of classified information. But it seems clear that no one within the government is willing to tell the truth about the fraudulent contracts. Without that, no one can be held accountable for their actions and there is little to prevent such fraud in the future. Getting the story to the news media seems to be the only way to make things right.

On the other hand, Mr. Briar has already alerted his coworkers and superiors with his questions. And others are aware of his relationship with Mr. Cross. If Cross writes a story about the fraudulent contracts and efforts to cover them up, Danny will be a prime suspect for the leak. It could easily cost him his job, but he could also be charged with federal crimes.

Thanks in advance everyone!!
If you don’t feel like reading it don’t answer the question its a waste of my time and yours
