I am a little torn about job possibilities. I currently work for a large government agency, and I really enjoy the job. I get along well with my bosses and most coworkers and only slightly annoyed with one coworker (person’s work ethic is terrible). I have been with the agency for only a year and a half and have only been in this particular position for about 6 months. I am content with my salary although I think the coworker with terrible work ethic makes as much as I do yet I have more experience and more education directly related to the job. I do not think there is much job growth here, and I am only in my mid-20s. Another possibility has come about where I would make more money per day but it is less money yearly. However workdays drop from 261 a year (the 10 federal holidays) to 210 days a year with the other job. The other job also would use more of my skills related to a grad degree I’m working on now and appears to have job growth. Is this worth changing jobs?

i got a job mid-february with the idea that i would be here for the summer and continue next year up until i graduate. however, i was offered an internship over the summer for 2 months starting mid-june. is it ok to resign from a job after less than 4 months working?

i doubt i will be allowed to take a 2 month break and this internship is more important to me than the job i currently have so it seems i have no choice.

what should i do?
its also not a contracted position and my employee information packet says that i dont even need to give 2 weeks notice to quit.

Most of my experience is in self-employment and volunteering (self-directed initiatives). I have a big problem w/ expressing myself orally. It’s just the way I am, and unfortunately don’t have the time nor money to take classes. I’ve got a job interview on Friday and another the week after.

We’ve been told that the earliest anyone will be made redundant will be 1 August and it looks likely that my job will be OK until mid December.

However, I’ve been offered another job that wants me to start ASAP and it would obviously be good if I can get out with some sort of redundancy payment. From what the management have said so far there would seem to be 4 types of redundancy packages available:
(A) Nothing.
(B) Statutory minimum redundancy (1.5 weeks per year of service?)
(C) Enhanced redundancy (statutory + 2 weeks). This is conditional on signing a Compromise Agreement.
(D) Enhanced + £2,000 bonus. This is conditional on leaving on the preferred date suggested by the company.

I’d guess that I’d not get (D) if I want to leave ASAP, but I want to improve my chances of getting (B) or (C). Any suggestions?

My qualifications:
BS in Information Systems Management
5 years as a database analyst
2 years as a senior recruiter

As a senior recruiter, it’s more of a sales job. I want more career growth and responsibility at this point. What else do I need to do to transition from recruiter to generalist? Thinking about going back to school to get a MS in Human Resource or a MBA with specialization in Human Resource. Also, which degree would be better and any recommendation for colleges/universities. If I was to do the MBA, I would go with Loyola College. For the MS in Human Resource, I would go with Towson University but their job placement center is not resourceful or able to deliver results. Need feedback. Thanks.

I have had a decent career as a Manager at an Ad Agency or printing company. I’m divorce and I have a 4 yr old daughter. I live in CT, but I’m dating a woman that lives in MA. I’m on the verge of moving to MA with her. In some ways this is good; I get to start my life over. But I feel like things could fall part if I don’t have a plan. My concern is the stress in my life. Lots of changes are stressful as is my job. It pays well, but I know its affecting my health. I’m looking forward to a change. If I can find a way to support myself in Massachusetts, I would be happier. But, I’d really like to do something else, but dread having to go back to school and take a pay cut to re-establish myself in some other career. Ideally I’d like to have a business of my own, but what is that? Any advice on how I can find some stability on my life and be content would be appreciated. I have this great opportunity to start over; I just don’t want to stumble around in life blindly.

I certainly live up to my responsibilities as a dad and my daughter is my first priority. I love her and she loves me. But, I only get to see her every other weekend. You have no idea how hard that is on me. I would be living about an hour and fifteen minutes from her, so no big deal. I think I will be an even better dad if I get my own life in check.

I’m a mid-teen just looking for some extra cash and wondering what steps there are in getting a temp job for just some extra cash. It doesn’t matter where as long as i get adjustable hours and the work is just repetitive busy work with little social interaction.
