Can anyone tell me how to knock down a chimney ****** in a 1920′s mid terraced brick house safely?

mid jobs
CHRISTOPHER C asked:

It is a disused purpose built chimney that runs from the ground floor to the room above. It is positioned against the wall which adjoins the next property. If possible how difficult a job is it for an untrained hand.

What is the going rate for a professional builder to remove it?

Thanks

U need to take it apart 1 brick @ a time, just make sure U close off any openings @ the bottom into the house, All U need is a hammer & a garbage bin the the old bricks & flue tiles.

The chimney ****** may well be part of the walls structure carrying part of the load of the house so you need to take advice from a surveyer – definately not any old builder because they no little about structural integrity, stresses and strains. You will need a scaffold built to provide a safe work platform to take down the top part of the chimney safely a few bricks at a time.
