do you know what your corporate zodiac is?

juan ton zoup asked:

astrology tells us about people and their future by their time, date and location of birth. the Chinese zodiac uses the year of a persons birth.
demographics tells us what others like, dislike. who they voted for, as well as what they buy and what they watch on television. the corporate zodiac goes a step further: simply by an individuals job title, people can pretty much learn about an employees hidden personality traits

MARKETING
you are ambitious, yet stupid. you chose a marketing degree to avoid having to actually study in university, concentrating instead on drinking and socializing-which is pretty much what your job responsibilities are now. least compatible with sales

SALES
laziest of all the corporate signs, often referred to as a ‘marketer without a degree’. you are also self centered and paranoid. unless someone calls you and begs you to take their money, you like to avoid all contact with customers so you can ‘concentrate on the big picture’. you seek admiration for your golf game, clothes, car and *** appeal throughout your career

CUSTOMER SERVICE
Bright, cheery and positive, you are a 50 cent taxi ride from taking your own life. As a child very few of you asked your parents for a little cubicle for your room and a headset so you could pretend to play ‘customer service’. Continually passed over for promotions, your best bet is to sleep with your manager

TECHNOLOGY
Unable to control anything in your personal life, you are instead content to completely control everything that happens at your workplace
Typically you went to trade school because you didn’t have time for all that ‘crap’ required in university. Often, even you don’t understand what the hell you’re saying. But no one else except the engineers knows anyway. It is written that the geeks shall inherit the earth, but the senior managers keep contesting the will

ENGINEERING
One of only signs that actually studied in school, it is said that 60% of all people on the Internet are either engineers, or wish they were. You can be happy with yourself and the latest technology in you field. Your office is typically full of the latest gadgets, catalogues and half finished spec sheets

ACCOUNTING
The only other sign that studied in school, you are mostly immune from office politics. You are the most feared person in the organization; combined with your extreme organizational traits, the majority of your co-workers are convinced that you are completely without feeling or emotion. You are often caught in the bathroom, practicing your frown in the mirror

HUMAN RESOURCES
Ironically, given your access to confidential information, you tend to be the biggest gossip in the company. Possibly the only other person that does less work than marketing, you are unable to return any calls today because you have to get a haircut, have lunch, and mail a letter! Your favorite expression is ‘now don’t say anything but…’

MID LEVEL MANAGERS/DEPARTMENT HEADS/TEAM LEADERS
Cut throat and ambitious, but you are destined to remain in your current job forever unless a senior manager dies or retires. You measure your worth by the number of meetings you can schedule for yourself and the number of subordinates you sleep with. Best suited to marry other middle managers, as everyone in your social circle must be at least a middle manager for appearance sake

SENIOR MANAGERS
You enjoy appearing to be the ultimate authority figure but actually, you are completely spineless, and determined to remain in your current job for the rest of your life, unless the head of your organization dies or retires. Unable to make a single decision, you pretend to measure your worth by the number of mid level managers you can harass on any given day and ensure that your office is the largest in the building. best suited to date/marry other senior managers, as everyone in your social circle is a senior manager; besides, no one else would have you anyway

Under what conditions can a company hire overseas foreign nationals to work in the US?

Thatsdynamite asked:

I work for a British company based in the USA(new york city). I’ve become increasingly frustrated with my companies hiring practice of bringing over mid level management to do work that I have no doubt can be done by qualified Americans.
I thought that for comanies to hire foreign nationals in the US, the company had to advertise the position in the US for certain amount of time. Only then if they could not find suitable applicants they could open it up to overseas applicants. What bothers me is that these jobs are not specialized and can be done by locals. If anyone has knowledge in this area I would appreciate some answers.

25 with a college degree- but I can’t get hired?

I graduated from college with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications. 3.32 GPA, great resume, & references. Took me 7 months to find a job, hardly any pay, ended up getting pushed out. Took another 11 months to find a job. there for over a year.. took a job with the state, thought would be great. My supervisor turned out to be evil and harassing. Was VERY cruel to me so I ended up quitting, I couldn’t take it anymore. I thought it wouldn’t take too long to find a job. I left there in May.. it’s almost August.. I’ve applied for 100 jobs, have interviewed for 12 and no one wants to hire me. My fiance & I are running out of money and we are supposed to be saving for our May wedding! I just don’t know what else I can do better to get hired! I think my interviews go well and then nothing. Or I get interviewed for jobs with no health care or anything. I’ve been intv. for entry level hr and mid level admin work. So nothing even using my degree! Any suggestions? I just want to get hired!!
- I worked for my brother-in-law’s company in-between the first and second job.
- I’ve been taking and looking at jobs that are entry level, they are low paying, and do not require a degree.
- I look for jobs that are entry level and outside of the realm of my degree.
-My boss would tell me to go home early.. I did.. then she would write me up for leaving. Threatened to fire me. She would tell me to do things, I would do them, then she would call me into the HR office to tell me I should have had better judgement to do them the opposite way. The union wouldn’t protect me yet, since I was in my probation period, but they told me I should quit, because it sounded as though I would be fired. The 3 previous employees under this supervisor either quit or were fired.
-Before college I held the same job for 4 years. I’m dedicated, but I’m not going to be treated like a piece of garbage and threatened.

Applying for a different job within the same company?

LM asked:

I am currently employed as a mid-level employee (not a manager, but not a sales associate either) at a retail store owned by a large national corporation. I am seeking to relocate to the city where the corporation’s headquarters are located and am interested in several positions that are available at the head office.

However, I do not want my current supervisor to know that I am looking for a new job. I am worried that if I’m considered for the position, the people from the head office will contact my current boss without telling me (despite the fact that the position I would be applying for is completely different from the one I currently hold). Does anyone know what the protocol is in situations like this? Do I have a good reason to be nervous?

Is an 8,000 raise too much for a new job?

I am cosidering taking another job and it would be at a higher level, ie entry level to mid-level. I make 42k now, would asking for 50k be too much? I’m seeing mid-levels in environmental consulting making anywhere from 35k to 90k depending on location. Or should I go higher?
They called me and seem desperate… I didnt even send my resume…

I work in a pretty low stressed job (finance/accountant), from 9 to 5 at mid level. I used to work in much more senior roles but realised it was too stresful. I walk to work five days a week as I love the exercise. It takes me an hour and a quarter each way. By the time it comes to Friday evening, I’m exhausted and usually spend Saturday completely relaxing. I don’t even have children (I’m in my mid 40s) and wonder how Mothers do it all? I’m in very good health, am almost a vegetarian (just eat some fish) don’t smoke and drink just a glass every few weeks. I’m wondering why I’m so wrecked at the weekends?

I have a felony on my record (possession of marijuana) and was wondering if that would effect me getting a job

Benny C asked:

with a coorporation. The charge is over 7 years old and I have not been in any trouble since. I also have my associates degree and a stellar resume. #1 in sales 2 years in a row at a Fortune 100 company with proof. Luckily that company didnt do a background check on me for some reason. I work for a mid level medical supply company now and want to change jobs, but I am wondering if I should even bother. I was turned down by several companys when the charge was 5-6 years old ie. Dell, Pitney Bowes. Please advise. I still have to wait 2 more year before i can apply for a pardon in my state Tennessee.
It was a felony because a friend of mine got arrested buying a more ellicit drug, cocaine i think. So he decided to set me up. I got him an ounce of marijuana from a friend and didnt make a cent off it, I did it as a favor. Little did I know that he set me up to get himself out of trouble. He ended up not getting any jail time and I think that he also got his record reduced to a misdemeanor. he set several others up as well. Now I am stuck with a Class E felony, it was reduced to a felony possession of marijuana. And a cokehead is walking the streets basically a clean record. I am a very talented salesperson and my resume blows people away and then when I tell them I have a record they just look at me differently. Luckily I have always been able to get a good job through friends but since I have payed my time and I quit somking pot the day I was arrested. This is just BS, dont you love the justice system??
Is anyone on here in Human resources? If so I would like for you to explain if I would have problems getting a job with a 7+ year old possession of marijuana (felony) at your corporation. Keep in mind that is the only charge on my record ever and I havent even had a speeding ticket before. I am extremely clean cut, professional, and wear a suit and tie everyday now. By looking at me, I look like a regular college grad.

You can work your way up the class system but how many do ?

Trout asked:

What are some of the lower paid jobs ? Fast food which employ’s millions and working on a line at a factory (unless it is unionized) warehouses and retail outlets - that is a huge sum of people who are all the working poor the lowest paid

And the middle class ? They are the watchers of the poor worker

The low to Mid level management Doing accounting or reporting on how to make more money - A whole group of professionals now exist to tell you how to pay less wages and sell for more

The upper class - They “own” the property and the equipment - They move money around and buy labour or services they then sell for more - they move money around

Less than 1% of the population they trade pieces of paper for idea’s labour and services ….because they know they will get more pieces of paper for it later

The bulk of society has to stay poor under this system so although you are free to move up

Really how many people do ?

Is it me, or are all “Entry-Level” positions this way?

Monday 1 June 2009 @ 6:47 am

Seeker2008 asked:

Okay, so I have 3+ years of experience in my field of work. But I’m trying to get into some other Entry-Level Positions that some of my skills also fit in with, quite well. So that means basically trying to ‘work my way up from the bottom’. Which I’m fine with, however…I see a lot of “Entry-Level” positions being advertised. These are actually more of a mid-level ‘requirements’ position, yet faking as an Entry-Level job. So one will say, “No Experience Necessary”, for an Entry-Level job. Then it will list some basic requirements…such as 60wpm typing speed, etc. Then as you read on, something off-the-wall is listed in the requirements such as, “Must be knowledge in _____ and ______ and _______”. So if this is a ENTRY-LEVEL position…and no experience is required…how is it that these companies think they can post a job wanting people with mid-level knowledge in that field? If all of them were like that…then nobody would be able to start out in any field with no experience.
Perhaps this is just a little rant…but I posted this because I see my local/state employment office with job postings like this for various companies. I’m trying to get my foot in the door somewhere…and most every “Entry-Level” position seems to have a catch to it somewhere. Has anyone else encountered this nonsense? I know that staffing agencies are a good way to get some entry-level experience…and I’m working with those, too. I just find it heavily irritating…because it wouldn’t be “entry-level” if someone already had that kind of experience; and they certainly wouldn’t take entry-level pay for it, when they could go and get a mid-level job with better pay.
And sorry about the missing words/spelling errors…I was in a bit of a rush. :-)
